|10/4/2011 - “LE TIGRE” LOCKS UP J/80 NORTH AMERICAN TITLE|
Congratulations to the J/80 “Le Tigre” team who dominated the 2011 North American Championship last week! The team of Glenn Darden (helm), Karl Anderson (trim), Ullman Sails’ Max Skelley (tactics) and Reese Hillard (bow) earned their title with excellent teamwork and strong, consistent finishes throughout the 11-race series.
|9/28/2011 - ULLMAN SAILS POWER BIG WINS AT J-FEST|
At last weekend’s 2011 J-Fest in San Diego, Ullman Sails customers scored the top three spots in the highly competitive J/105 class! Bennett Greenwald and his team on “Perseverance” marked their return to the fleet with speed, sealing the regatta win in the final race! Steve Howell’s “Blink!” finished second overall, winning the first day on the racecourse, followed by Dennis Case on “Wings” who sealed the third place position with 21 total points and two bullets out of the 5-race series! All three boats competed with 100% Ullman Sails.
|9/27/2011 - SPORT BOATS EARN A PODIUM SWEEP + PCC TITLE|
Sport boats converged on San Diego’s South Bay last weekend for the 2011 Fall Sport Boat Regatta where Ullman Sails customers claimed the Flying Tiger 10 Pacific Coast Championships and a full sweep of the Viper 640 podium! Congratulations to Paul and Julie McPherson and their crew on the FT 10 “Niuhi” – they took charge early on Saturday and collected three straight bullets to open the event.
|9/19/2011 - JIM SMINCHAK’S J/105 “IT” NAMED CLEVELAND’S BOAT OF THE YEAR|
In the Cleveland Sailing Association’s 2011 Boat of the Year Championships series, Ullman Sails customers racked up the top four spots led by Jim Sminchak’s J/105 “It” who was named CSA 2011 Boat of the Year! Jim and his team took first place overall in the 14-race series, in addition to first in class in division B.

At last weekend’s Melges 24 Norwegian Open 2011, Norwegian Christoffer Sundby and his crew on “Oslo Flaggfabrikk” dominated the 2011 national title with a race to spare! The team finished with six bullets in the nine-race series, proving their speed and tactical edge on the racecourse.

Australian catamaran sailor Peter Berry is on a roll. He started the winter racing season off with an overall win in the three-race XXX Series hosted by Whitsunday Sailing Club. One of the major highlights of Swedish sailboat racing is the Tjörn Runt, which takes place off the West coast of Sweden on the third Saturday in August. The Tjörn Runt or “Around Tjörn” hosted 420 boats this year, despite big waves and breeze that picked up to 30 knots.

Earlier this month, Bob Cadranell had the pleasure of re-launching his R Boat “Ace” on Seattle’s Lake Union. “Ace” hadn’t been in the water for decades and Bob had just completed two years of serious work to rebuild the boat.

Congratulations to British Optimist sailors Sally Lorimer and Ellen Main who recently completed a stellar week of racing at the 50th Volvo Gill Optimist Nationals in North Wales, finishing 2nd and 5th respectively in the 86-boat Regatta Racing fleet! In a series of 13 races, including a passage race, both girls scored a bullet and several top five finishes, consistently challenging for the top spot.

Southern California keelboats lined up in Santa Barbara last Friday for the final stage of the Ullman Sails Offshore Series – the annual Santa Barbara to King Harbor Race 2011! The fleet enjoyed consistent breeze and Ullman Sails customers secured several podium finishes, including three class wins! Dave Baker and his team on the Schock 34PC “Lulu” won PHRF Class “C” fully powered by Ullman Sails.

In the Pacific Northwest, Brad and Traci Bradley won the PHRF division of the ten-race Nanaimo Yacht Club Spring Series off Vancouver Island. Unlike other locales where the Melges is sailed, racing in the cold weather of the Northwest can have its own unique challenges - the crew often used their Ullman Sails for speed on the race course and then for speed to get to the warmth of the yacht club faster! Brad and Traci Bradley recently took ownership of USA 539 from Kristen and Peter Lane.

Congratulations to Jack Taylor’s Santa Cruz 50 “Horizon” who claimed top honors last week in the 2011 Newport Harbor YC Cabo Race. After his clean sweep of last year’s Pacific Cup, Taylor won this race in similar fashion by claiming first in class and first overall! Ed Feo’s Andrews 45 “Locomotion” was the first boat in the fleet to cross the finish line in Cabo San Lucas and corrected to 4th in class behind “Horizon”.
